Who we are

UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) hosts the National Ecosystem Assessment Initiative (NEA Initiative). It works with countries around the world to implement NEAs and deliver critical knowledge to support decision-making around biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Since 2017, the NEA Initiative has supported more than 14 countries engaging with different aspects of the NEA process. This support is delivered in collaboration with key partners, including United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) through the the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Network (BES-Net).

The NEA Initiative provides trusted guidance through a diverse team of experts and practitioners. It tailors resources and facilitates knowledge-exchange to strengthen capacities for NEAs across 5 continents.
